Fire weather briefing, February 27, 2013 – NOAA meteorologist Luis Rosa

Fire danger continues high according to NOAA meteorologist Luis Rosa. See today’s fire weather briefing with the latest imagery and drought information. According to meteorologist Rosa “In many places across Puerto Rico, fuels have not been this dry in the last 8 years or so. The only year that compares to 2013 was 2007”.

Fire weather briefing, February 26, 2013 – Luis Rosa, NOAA meteorologist

Luis Rosa is a NOAA meteorologist and the Fire Weather Program Leader, NOAA/National Weather Service, San Juan Forecast Office, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He provides informative fire weather briefings to a multi-agency group of scientists and managers. The CLCC and the International Institute of Tropical Forestry are working with Meteorologist Rosa, NOAA and others to develop tools and analyses to assess fire danger and the cumulative impacts of fire for the region. We are happy to pass on these briefings and other fire related information to the CLCC community during the active fire seasons.

Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative funded research on coral bleaching published in Nature Climate Change

This is recent high-profile publication of research funded in part by the Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative (PICCC).  The Pacific Islands CCC is one of 22 LCCs nationally and, like the Caribbean LCC, focused on tropical and island conservation issues. The study on climate impacts to coral reefs that includes:

(1) Modeling of future bleaching and ocean acidification impacts on corals globally based on the new IPCC AR5 climate models (2 publications) and

(2) An engagement component to understand how Hawaiian local marine managers might utilize this  information to inform their management strategies.

aWe see a lot of potential for collaboration and shared learning with PCC. Congratulations on the publication!
